Ein ereignisreiches Jahr voller bewegender Geschichten liegt hinter uns.

Mit MOTHER’S BABY im Wettbewerb der Berlinale, SIE GLAUBEN AN ENGEL, HERR DROWAK? im Wettbewerb des Shanghai Int. Film Festival (inklusive Preis für die beste Kamera für Markus Nestroy), der Produktion von LOVE ROULETTE und der ausverkauften (Vor)Premieren (jetzt im Kino!), der Teilnahme von WAKE UP am Series Lab sowie den Erfolgen von DER PRANK am Zurich Film Festival, konnten wir 2025 wichtige künstlerische und internationale Akzente setzen.

Zum Auftakt ins neue Jahr sind wir im Januar 2026 mit gleich fünf Filmen an den Solothurner Filmtagen vertreten – ein schöner Anlass für Rückblick und Ausblick zugleich.

SIE GLAUBEN AN ENGEL, HERR DROWAK?

Die optimistische Studentin Lena (Luna Wedler) übernimmt einen Schreibkurs – ihr einziger Teilnehmer ist Hugo Drowak (Karl Markovics), ein verbitterter, trinkender Misanthrop. Einst schrieb er voller Leidenschaft Liebesgedichte, bis eine Enttäuschung ihn in Alkohol und Isolation trieb. Trotz seiner Gemeinheiten gibt Lena nicht auf: Sie glaubt fest, dass jeder Mensch eine zweite Chance verdient, und versucht, Hugos Kreativität neu zu entfachen.

Charlie (Yvonne Eisenring) und Tom (Max Hubacher) sind seit fünfzehn Jahren ein Paar. Jetzt, in ihren Dreissigern, wollen sie den nächsten Schritt wagen und heiraten – und bekommen kalte Füsse: Was, wenn sie später bereuen, sich nie ausgelebt zu haben? Eine Story über die Herausforderungen der Liebe in einer Welt, in der bereits ein Swipe reicht, um die Karten neu zu mischen.

DER PRANK – APRIL APRIL

Ein aus dem Ruder laufender Aprilscherz des zwölfjährigen chinesischen Gastschülers Xi Zhōu (Max Zheng) katapultiert Lucas (Noèl Gabriel Kipp), ebenfalls zwölf, und seine Familie aus dem Alltag. Ein vertauschter Pizzakarton voller Geld ruft nicht nur eine Truppe Gangsterrapper um die berühmte Miss Nelly auf den Plan, sondern die echte Mafia und ein tollpatschiges Polizistenduo. Das irrwitzige Abenteuer zieht die beiden ungleichen Jungen in einen Strudel sich überschlagender Ereignisse.

DER PRANK - APRIL APRIL geht für den Schweizer Filmpreis in folgenden Kategorien ins Rennen:

MOTHER'S BABY

Julia (Marie Leuenberger), 40, eine erfolgreiche Dirigentin, und ihr Partner Georg (Hans Löw), 44, sehnen sich nach einem Kind, als der Arzt Dr. Vilfort (Claes Bang) ihnen Hoffnung gibt. Nach der erfolgreichen Behandlung in seiner Klinik wird Julia schwanger. Doch die Geburt verläuft anders als erwartet, und der Säugling wird sofort weggebracht. Julia wird im Unklaren darüber gelassen, was passiert ist. Als sie das Kind schliesslich in den Armen hält, fühlt sie sich merkwürdig distanziert. Sie zweifelt sogar, ob es wirklich ihr Kind ist.

DIE VORKOSTERINNEN

Die Geschichte folgt der jungen Rosa (Elisa Schlott), die aus dem zerbombten Berlin flieht, und einer Gruppe von Frauen, die 1943 von der SS in einem abgelegenen Dorf in der Nähe von Hitlers Hauptquartier, der Wolfsschanze, rekrutiert wurden, um die für Hitler zubereiteten Speisen zu kosten. Basierend auf dem Bestseller von Rosella Postorino «Le assaggiatrici».

DIE VORKOSTERINNEN geht für den Schweizer Filmpreis in folgenden Kategorien ins Rennen:

Mit Vorfreude blicken wir auf das kommende Jahr:

SIE GLAUBEN AN ENGEL, HERR DROWAK? wird am 19. Januar das renommierte Festival Max Ophüls Preis in Saarbrücken eröffnen und startet am 19. Februar im Kino in Deutschland und Österreich im Verleih von X Verleih.

Die Dreharbeiten zu DER FLIEGENDE BERG, dem neuen Kinospielfilm des Schweizer Regisseurs Nicolas Steiner, realisiert als internationale Koproduktion mit Samson Films (Dublin) und Amour Fou Vienna, haben bereits begonnen und werden ab Februar in Irland, Nepal, dem Wallis und in Wien fortgeführt.

Die vierteilige Dokufiction Serie DER ENGELMACHER (Regie: Marina Klauser) über die Schweizer Glaubensgemeinschaft Methernita befindet sich aktuell in Postproduktion. Die Ausstrahlung ist im Herbst 2026 zusammen mit der Lancierung der neuen Streamingplattform Play+ der SRG geplant. 

GNADE, der neue Spielfilm von Stefan Jäger, erzählt die Geschichte der letzten Hinrichtung in der Schweiz und ist mit Luna Wedler und Max Hubacher in den Hauptrollen besetzt.

Wer DIE VORKOSTERINNEN nicht im Kino gesehen hat, kann Silvio Soldinis neuen Spielfilm nun auf Netflix anschauen.

An eventful year full of moving stories lies behind us.

With MOTHER’S BABY in competition at the Berlinale, YOU BELIEVE IN ANGELS, MR DROWAK? in competition at the Shanghai International Film Festival (including the award for Best Cinematography for Markus Nestroy), the production of LOVE ROULETTE and its sold-out (pre-)premieres (now playing in cinemas!), the participation of WAKE UP in the Series Lab, as well as the successes of PRANK at the Zurich Film Festival, we were able to set important artistic and international impulses in 2025.

To kick off the new year, we will be represented with five films at the Solothurn Film Festival in January 2026 – a welcome occasion for both looking back and ahead.

YOU BELIEVE IN ANGELS, MR DROWAK?

The optimistic student Lena (Luna Wedler) takes on a writing course – with only one participant: Hugo Drowak (Karl Markovics), a bitter, hard-drinking misanthrope. Once, he wrote love poetry with great passion, until a profound disappointment drove him into alcohol and isolation. Despite his rudeness, Lena refuses to give up. She firmly believes that everyone deserves a second chance and sets out to rekindle Hugo’s creative spark.

LOVE ROULETTE

Charlie (Yvonne Eisenring) and Tom (Max Hubacher) have been a couple for fifteen years. Now in their thirties, they are ready to take the next step and get married – only to get cold feet. What if they later regret never having fully lived things out? A story about the challenges of love in a world where a single swipe can reshuffle the cards.

PRANK

An April Fools’ prank gone wrong by twelve-year-old Chinese exchange student Xi Zhōu (Max Zheng) throws Lucas (Noèl Gabriel Kipp), also twelve, and his family completely off course. A mix-up involving a pizza box full of money attracts not only a gang of gangster rappers led by the notorious Miss Nelly, but also the real mafia and a bumbling duo of police officers. What follows is a wild adventure that pulls the two unlikely boys into a whirlwind of rapidly escalating events.

MOTHER'S BABY

Julia (Marie Leuenberger), 40, a successful conductor, and her partner Georg (Hans Löw), 44, long for a child when Dr. Vilfort (Claes Bang) offers them hope. Following a successful treatment at his clinic, Julia becomes pregnant. But the birth takes an unexpected turn, and the newborn is taken away immediately. Julia is left in the dark about what has happened. When she finally holds the baby in her arms, she feels strangely detached. She even begins to doubt whether the child is truly hers.

THE TASTERS

The story follows the young Rosa (Elisa Schlott), who flees the bombed-out city of Berlin, and a group of women who, in 1943, are recruited by the SS in a remote village near Hitler’s headquarters, the Wolf’s Lair, to taste the food prepared for him. Based on the bestselling novel «Le assaggiatrici» by Rosella Postorino.

We’re excited for what’s to come:

YOU BELIEVE IN ANGELS, MR DROWAK? will open the prestigious Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival in Saarbrücken on 19 January and will be released in cinemas in Germany and Austria on 19 February, distributed by X Verleih.

The shooting of THE FLYING MOUNTAIN, the new feature film by Swiss director Nicolas Steiner, an international co-production with Samson Films (Dublin) and Amour Fou Vienna, has already begun and will continue from February in Ireland, Nepal, Valais and Vienna.

The four-part docu-fiction series THE ANGEL MAKER (directed by Marina Klauser) about the Swiss religious community Methernita is currently in post-production. The series is scheduled to premiere in autumn 2026, alongside the launch of the new SRG streaming platform Play+.

GNADE, the new feature film by Stefan Jäger, tells the story of the last execution in Switzerland and stars Luna Wedler and Max Hubacher in the leading roles.

Those who missed THE TASTERS in cinemas can now watch Silvio Soldini’s latest feature film on Netflix.
